Laad Bazaar or Choodi Bazaar is a very old market popular for bangles located in Hyderabad. It is located on one of the four main roads that branch out from the historic Charminar. Laad meaning lacquer is used to make Bangles, on which artificial diamonds are studded. In this kilometre-long shopping strip exclusively for women, are a vast and colourful array of stores selling bangles, saris, wedding related items, and jewellery. Around Charminar – A most sought after place for pearls and antique jewellery
The markets around Charminar are famous for bangles and pearls. Hyderabad is synonymous with pearls. Cultured pearls studded in gold and silver jewellery of exquisite design are a specialty of hyderabad jewellery. Pearls come in many shapes and of particular interest is the ‘rice-pearl’ – a tiny variety. The precious “Basra”- a pearl unmatched in lustre, colour and price and is available in selected stores. The areas surrounding Charminar like ‘Char kaman’ and ‘Mitti-ka-sher’ are famous for antique kundan and enamel jewellery, temple sarees, old bidri and silver, crystal and pearls. “Darushafa” is famous for the tissue-thin silver leaf that decorates Indian sweetmeats, and bidri ware.
