Telangana Government in Collaboration With a Hyderabad-based Startup Deploys Covid-19 Monitoring System

The public health and family welfare department of the Telangana government invested rapidly to deploy India’s first automated “COVID-19 Monitoring System App”. The primary objective of this app is to identify patients, track, monitor, and provide real-time analytics to the state health department and even the chief minister. This live surveillance app is developed by Vera Smart Healthcare as a part of a public health initiative due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They developed the technology platform just merely in 3 days.

The system empowers each health worker to handle more than 1,500 phone calls and some chatbot conversations each day with a patient to ensure that the symptomatic or confirmed ‘positive’ individual is quarantined and undergoing treatment. The health workers also persuade and remind the patient to self-administer the prescribed treatment, to maintain social distancing, as well as remind them to stay home and stay safe. The monitoring system which is built on a digital platform, erases human errors and provides accurate information.

At any given point of time, 1,500-2,000 Asha and ANM workers will be using this app. These workers will forward the information to 4,800 PHC sub-centres, from where it will be sent to the state’s 886 PHCs and further sent to the concerned district medical health office for appropriate action. Vera’s centralized Covid-19 Monitoring System is a timely technology innovation that eases the pain of health workers by effective surveillance.

Among the key features of the app are GPS tracking and Geo-tagging of the home quarantined person, to ensure that he/she is not breaching the quarantine laws. Every stakeholder has been given comprehensive training on how to use the app. With instant trace and traceability, accurate information is pushed to the authorities even if there is a breach. Vera is now preparing to release a batch of “SMART PATCH” which tags the patient geographically, monitors and disseminates his/her real-time health progress.

Director of Public Health Dr. G Srinivas Rao commended Vera Smart Healthcare expertise on handling Covid-19 surveillance complexities while announcing the successful deployment of the Covid-19 Monitoring System App.
