GRE otherwise called Graduate Record Examination is an international standardized test conducted by the ETS (Educational Testing Service). This test allows you to present your ability to fetch admissions in various graduate schools in various countries, specifically in the United States and Canada. Aspirants who are interested in pursuing a master’s degree such as MS, MBA, MEM and even Ph.D.’s can take this test. Apart from the general GRE test, there are subject GRE tests that are specific to some respective fields. GRE is a computer adaptive test, depending on your answers in the first sections, the difficulty level may increase or decrease. In India, the cost of registering for GRE is $205. There is no particular criterion to attend or take a GRE test.
The general GRE test has 3 sections namely
- Quantitative Reasoning.
- Verbal Reasoning.
- Analytical Writing.
The most commonly used GRE test format is Computer-based, however, a paper-based test is available at few centers. The total duration of the GRE test is 3hours 40mins. One can take the GRE test 5 times in a 12 month period and the gap maintained should be 21 days between each test. The total score of general GRE is on a scale of 340. After your test date, the official scores are sent through the mail. The validity of the GRE score is up to 5 years. GRE can be prepared on your own but it is better advised to join a coaching center where you can prepare for the test in order, take the mock tests and crack the GRE test with high scores.
